Resident Evil is a 2002 action-horror film directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and loosely inspired by the popular video game series. The story takes place in a secret underground genetic research facility called the Hive, owned by the powerful Umbrella Corporation. When a lethal virus is accidentally released inside the facility, its artificial intelligence, the Red Queen, seals the entire complex, trapping the infected and killing everyone inside to prevent the virus from escaping.

Alice (played by Milla Jovovich) wakes up in an abandoned mansion above the Hive with no memory of who she is. She is soon captured by a team of commandos sent in to investigate and stop the outbreak. As they descend into the Hive, they discover that the virus has transformed the research staff into aggressive, flesh-eating zombies, and there are other terrifying mutations lurking in the shadows.

With time running out before the infected can escape to the surface, Alice and the remaining survivors must battle through hordes of undead and confront the deadly Red Queen computer system to find a way out and stop the contagion. The film blends intense action, horror elements, and sci-fi themes as it follows their desperate struggle for survival.
